The most popular question we get all the time is gun nailing your new roof as good has hand nailing. Well first let me say this; both are accepted methods per the manufactures of the shingles. The only banned method is staples. Back in the early 90's there were a few fly by night contractors stapling on new roof shingles. That was a disaster waiting to happen. At Blue Square Builders we offer both our Hand Nailed 'Signature Roof' and our Air Gun Nailed 'Insurance Claim Roof'. Most Insurance related projects are Gun Nailed. Due to the insurance carrier not
paying the extra cost for a Hand Nailed new roof installation. For 23 Years we never had not one issue with any of our new roof installations, Never! So rest assure if we Gun Nail or Hand Nail your new roof it will be done Right!. We use 1.25" Electro Galvanized Roofing Nails made in the USA! At Blue Square Builders we are proud to still offer our Optional and Upgraded Hand Nailed 'Signature Roof' installation. 90% of our new Roofs are installed nail by nail, by hand. Yep that's right the superior way to install new roofs. Our new roofs meet and usually exceed all manufacture specifications. We use a 4-6 nail pattern on each shingle which meets the Manufacture 4 nail minimum required for the warranty.
Why we use Squirrel Safe Plumbing Pipe Flashing's. Cause in some cases squirrel's eat plumbing pipe flashing's all kinds plastic, lead etc. We have seen them eat the back of aluminum gutters, gutter guards, wood fascia boards and other wood trim and siding. If you have a squirrel problem seek a professional to have them removed.
Do squirrels eat 'Lead' Plumbing Pipe Flashing's? Yes, they also chew through plastic and rubber ones too. We have recently went to 'Squirrels Safe' pipe flashing's that also have a neoprene seal with a 20 Year Warranty. We also have seen squirrels eat the aluminum gutters, shingles and many other exterior building materials.
We install our new Roofs with 'Cut Valley's' this is what it looks like and this is why we think it is the best installation for a valley. First we install a 36" wide Ice & Water Shield in all Valleys. We then install the lower Roof or lower pitched Roof first and run it 24" up under the opposing Roof. We then install the other Roof over that valley, snap a line and make a clean straight cut. This allows the water to shed faster and not get the heavy thick woven valley problem.
We install Owens Corning WeatherLock® & Water Shield in All Valley's, Where Roofs meet walls, Dormers, Chimney's, Roof Penetrations and low sloped Roofs 3/12 and less. We also offer Optional Ice & Water Shield installed at all Roof Eaves. Call for Pricing. Not Required in Pennsylvania.
Sometimes when we tear off a Roof we discover that the house has 3/8" thick plywood and worse if it was installed over 24" on center Roof rafters. The solution is that we often have to re-deck the entire Roof with an additional layer of 1/2" OSB and stagger the existing layout which now gives us a stable and solid Roof deck to attach your new Roof to.
